As the games improve more and more in the 3D space, the characters seem to be regressing from 3D to 2D. The story, lore and writing in the Borderlands series has gone from cool, light-hearted, subtle humour to utter on the nose foolishness. Why Gearbox is assassinating their own characters left and right is a mystery and a real shame. I have smaller notes on specific cutscenes that could've been better but the broad brushstrokes are great.Awful. That can make for tedious moments when you're waiting to be back in control, not sure if a scene ended yet, or want to make a choice not presented by the game. You don't have gameplay so much as an interactive story with extremely easy puzzles between breaks of good-to-great cutscenes. I dislike Borderlands 1 and 2 and leave it to Telltale to make a far better story and more engaging world.ģ) Any criticism lands at the fundamental nature of these games. The plot is always moving forward and the game is much better off for it.Ģ) Don't place expectations on the 2K games. Tales of Borderlands succeeds in being fun and legitimately funny with no energy-dead spots, an issue I found with TWD games. You are buying a fun and great interactive TV series that happens to run in a game engine.ġ) This is the best Telltale game yet, consolidating the storytelling ability from Walking Dead with Borderland's fun plotline and characterization. Some of the best video game story/characterization paired with the least amount of gameplay possible. It's a one time experience (let's be real, choices affect the story, but they aren't changing it enough to make playing again a totally different experience which would be necessary when replaying this type of game), but it's good enough to absolutely not regret 10 hours of playing it. They really managed to portray their emotions in a convincing way.Īll in all this is a really good game. Voice actors did pretty good job, especially the ones playing Vaughn, Rhys and Handsome Jack. It doesn't change it significantly, but it influences some events. I wouldn't say that it changed with this game, but it is possible for example to let some characters live and later they have some impact on the story. The games made by Telltale were famous (or infamous) for giving a players an illusion of choice, that the choices that players make don't really matter. I absolutely love the characters in this game, that are the caricatures, but paradoxically they are also very realistic, I believe in their motivations, I also have to praise the way relationships between them are build. This game is pretty funny and absurd at times, but when it gets serious, it could also be pretty emotional. They meet and create an unlikely alliance. The other is Fiona, Pandorian con-artists. There are two main protagonists, Hyperion employee Rhys whose hopes for a promotion are shattered by his enemy, so he is forced to begin the quest for revenge and power on Pandora, very dangerous and unfriendly planet. This is the world that doesn't treat itself too serious, but is also not just a fun with simple, and sometimes goofy, villains and I would say that this game managed to portray it perfectly I thought that it would be hard to fit Borderlands world into Telltale storytelling, yet it works almost perfectly in this game.
